Picture It!

“Picture It:  A game you’ll never forget”

This is the latest from The Wildermuth Game-Works.  By the way, there is now an open-invitation to join The Wildermuth Game-Works.  It is a worker-owned worker-run venture.  We currently need both human and financial resources to make our first official game a reality.  We need artists, playtesters, storytellers, marketers, and production staff.  But on to the real show - Picture It! Turkey

I have purchased my ticket.  It was more expensive than I thought it would be.  I decided that instead of okaying it first, since the price appeared to have increased in ONE WEEK, I would just grab it and bite the bullet if need be.

I arrive in at Bodrum airport at 1600 hours on August the 14th.  Who’s gonna come get me?

:)

Turkey

So, we’re going to Turkey? What are the exact plans reguarding this? One of my best friends from DC (Barbra, you guys may have met her, she did City Year with me) just moved to Baghdad. As we are both on this side of the world now my closest girlfriends from DC have proposed we all take a European vacation together in the beginning of Sept (Sept 2 - 9 or something like that.) So, I proposed they come to the house in Turkey. This is, of course, under the assumption that our family vacation ends the 27th of August? As such, I would like to know everyone’s dates for Turkey and also when a ride to the house can best be arranged as I will be bringing all of my worldly possessions. I want to see everyone but I don’t really want to go as early as the 10th as I should probably still be working on my thesis then and want to finish it before I leave.

I Hate Facebook

Speaking of photos, Like a good little facebook weenie I went ahead and put together an “album” with over thirty photos from our R&R (or as I like to call it, “the rest of the story”). For some unknown reason, they all appeared on my facebook homepage as well as in the photo section.

dsc01104.JPG

I didn’t want them there. I only wanted them in the photo section. The only way to get them off my homepage was to delete the entire album, which I did. What did I do wrong? If I can figure out how to keep them off my homepage I’ll redo the album. Suggestions welcome.

Hmmm, This May Not Be an Encouraging Sign

Compare and contrast with a couple of WEF2’s Facebook photos of the canal cruise.

Turkey Info for WEF6

I see that WEF6 has recently posted, so I wanted to pass the message that we recently received from Christine, our real estate person in Turkey– Apparently there is an issue concerning keys.   The Yakamoz restaurant is the one on the beach near the house.  If you get completely lost close to the house, you may be able to ask for directions to this restaurant:

Hello,

I have done the check meanwhile and your house is fine. All furniture is installed and connected, hot water is working, the pressure is very good. The only thing which attracted my attention: between kitchen and lounge top floor there is no breakfast bar. The builder wanted to put a narrow piece of marble as thick as the wall, but I remembered that you said that you want to put there a wooden breakfast bar, and told the seller accordingly. So this is looking tidy but unfinished.

After I gave you the keys the seller gave the workmen keys for the jobs in the house, but they lost the key for the ground floor apartment. We got the cylinder changed, and one set of keys with the old top floor key, but with the new ground floor key, is at the Yakamoz restaurant. I will text your daughter now, with the key she has she cannot open the ground floor apartment.

Regards

Christine

More Turkish Updates

K and I are still at Ceyhan’s house. We went out clubbing yesterday and met a few of his friends. We got back around 5 am, so we overslept rather desperately. Thus, though we planned to go to the house today, we didn’t manage to leave. We found that after packing and eating it was too late to get there. The sun sets around 9, but we didn’t want to risk being caught on the road at night; Ceyhan, a driver, in particular thought that would be horrendous.

Everything continues to go well here. Happily for Jessie and Erin, the heat issue is lowered dramatically once outside of Bodrum. Ceyhan theorizes it’s because there aren’t piles of cement buildings everywhere, which sounds plausible to me. So, I think our house should be very reasonable in terms of heat.

On a different note, I’ve been in communication with Karl and he says he has no plans to re-enlist, but is thinking of going mercenary for a year, for the money, or returning to college. I know Mom was wondering about his plans, so I hope that’s helpful.

Also, the situation with “debating” in the house has gotten much better. I’ve, thankfully, learned how not to engage Ceyhan in debates when he starts poking about at me. Go me :)

WEF6 out

Further Turkish Posting

We have arrived at Ceyhan’s house. We have eaten and we are happy. His house is right next to the ocean, surrounded by foliage, across from an odd “rabbit island” we shall shortly visit, and decked out in hippy designs. It’s quite awesome, actually.

I highly, highly suggest that WEF7 and WEF4 book at Bodrum Backpackers. It’s not particularly loud at night, the doors have locks, bathrooms are shared (not a big deal), it’s around 1o minutes from the port (walking), close to the beach, and has a nice cheap restaurant/pub downstairs. Turkish Lira are about 1 to 1 with the American dollar, so, given that, there are nice lamb/chicken rolls for around 4/3 bucks respectively that make quite an adequate meal. I don’t suggest buying cokes or alcohol as it is obscenely expensive. Instead, get big, big water bottles at the stores that dot the areas and just take them about with you.

In fact, and I cannot stress this enough, do not go about with water. Ever. I’ve been close to heat stroke countless times at this point; my face has not been so scary red in years upon years as it has been routinely on this trip. Water is the only solution. Also, to prep for the trip, you might want to turn off the AC in the house. It won’t get as hot as it is here, but it might give you some much needed mental preparation for the excessive heat.

That is all.

Turkey Update

We have arrived safely in Bodrum, Turkey. Ceyhan found us, thankfully. He basically had to hunt us down, due to his phone being a figment of our mutual imaginations.

The hotel is pretty nice, but likely loud at night. We’re thinking of spending a few days here with Ceyhan partying (disco’s don’t have cover fees and we don’t need to drink).  Ceyhan has a house an hour away and a car until the 5th, so it’s no issue getting us down to the house.

I’m rather tired, and honestly should be sleeping…I’m perhaps getting a tad sensitive. But, at the same time,  being here with K and Ceyhan has made me aware, again, as to how I’m seen by Johnnies.  And it isn’t pleasant.

Incapable. Incompetent. Stubborn to a fault. Ignorant.

I really don’t want to go back to that school, where somehow every moment of every day someone feels the need to judge me and find me lacking. It hurts my soul, to use a WEF7 phrase.

K is going out of her way to make things more pleasant, but it’s a bit late. We’re both tired. I’m sure that’s it. We usually are in bed by 6 pm, 8 pm at the latest, and it’s 10 pm right now. Today has been rough, my family.

The Trip: Stage Two

Rhodes, Greece

We arrived. We slept for 16 hours. We saw Old Town. We saw Lindos.

This is the Rhodes adventure in short.

More pertinently, for our WEFers at least, is the Europa hotel. I am sad to say that I was a bit mistaken in the level of comfort available at this hotel. The beaches on Rhodes are mainly rocky, not sandy (!). Europe hotel charges extra for AC, which K and I did not get. We had an awesome time, but only, and I stress this, because K dragged me hither and yonder to look at various “old” things and places. And because I rode a donkey up to the Lindos Acropolis.

But, dear WEF4 and WEF7, if you plan to do the “ruins and old stuff” route, then stay somewhere closer to Old Town and cheaper than the Europa Hotel (there are indeed such places). If you plan to do the “I am lazy, there is a pool, put me in it” route, then I’m almost positive there are places further out from Rhodes Town with nice pools and nice rooms…once again for cheaper than Europa.

Then again, K and I were within walking distance to Old Town and found the bus to Lindos without major issue. So, we’re rather well situated for what we did, we just could’ve done it cheaper. Particularly since we never used the pool, despite K’s desires.

Finding the port is not an issue at all, so don’t worry about it much. Most people here speak simple english, so if you get lost it isn’t a big deal.

There are stories, of course, there are Always stories, but putting such thing on WExForce, when we’re paying quite a bit for every second on the internet, seems absurd.

We are fine, we are happy, we live, we go to Bodrum today.

Love,

WEF6
